Peak District Trip: 2nd - 3rd October 2004 Myself and 3 friends were given Fathers Day gifts - a weekend walking in the Peak District around Derbyshire. Although, I haven’t worked out the “gift” part of it, since we had to pay for it ourselves! It was a super weekend. On the Saturday, we walked in the hills overlooking the Ladybower and Derwent reservoirs, then along the Derwent reservoir, past the Derwent dam, and along the Ladybower reservior and back to Cut Throat bridge. We walked around 11 miles. We spent the night in The Rambler Inn in Edale - excellent accommodation with good food and beer. The next day we decided to have an easier walk in the hills overlooking Castleton. We walked around 4.5 miles. Lake District Trip: 5th - 7th November 2004 Once again the usual gang took to the Lakes for our annual “Pain and Pleasure” weekend break. That Friday morning we all took to the road aiming to be in Grassmere by early afternoon... and it worked! We stayed at the Rothay Gardens Hotel in Grassmere. This is a superb hotel with spacious and comfortable rooms, a cosy bar and a good restaurant. In short, it is the perfect place to return too, after a days hiking. We had a predictable itinerary: ->Friday 5th- afternoon walk, rest, bar, restaurant, bar. ->Saturday 6th - all day hike over Helvellyn, bigger rest, bar, restaurant, bar. ->Sunday 7th -Go Ape! (Thetford Forest), restaurant then home. Paris Trip: Sometime in October 2005 Another Autumn weekend break. This Year we decided to spend the weekend in Paris. We stayed in a nice hotel in the centre of Paris, just a few minutes walk from the Eiffel Tower. We went all over the place! Mostly we used the River Taxi, using it as a way to link together various attractions. Lots of walking, but what a place! Jersey Trip: 3rd - 5th November 2006 Going somewhere for an Autumn Long Weekend is becoming a bit of a ritual! This year we went to Jersey. The Island is only 10 mile by 6 miles, but has plenty to see and do. Add to that, a nice Hotel (with a pool and a bar), some cracking restaurants and good company and you get a great weekend.
